A note from Saskia at SMYC

Big shoutout to Canadian Team member Clara Gravely for donating two ILCA 6 sails to SMYC!

Currently, Sint Maarten YC is running three different programs:

A Sailability Program for differently abled residents of St. Maarten. “We’ve launched this free program a year ago and are now sailing with four students that all are challenged with a disability.

We run a free school program for four different primary schools on the island, including a Swim 2 Sail program, as we’ve seen that many of the participants were not able to swim when we tried to teach them how to sail. At the moment we have 48 kids in the primary school sailing program.

Then, we have 94 kids in our After School Sailing Program. All kids come weekly for their sailing classes during the afternoons, or on a Saturday morning sailing Optimist, RS Zest, RS Quest or Laser.

Part of the After School Sailing Program is the SMYC Racing Team. we have an optimist racing team and an ILCA Laser Team.”

Massive thanks to Wendy Loat and Nick Bailey of ABYC, Toronto for the collaboration and personal delivery!
