ILCA 4 Silver for Canada at Midwinters West

Silver medal for Andre Deseau of West Van YC

Close to 40 young Canadian sailors were in action last weekend for the Midwinters West competitions held in California.

At the ILCA-NA Midwinters West held at Marina del Rey, Andre Deseau was the top Canadian with a second-place finish in the ILCA 4 class. The athlete from West Vancouver Yacht Club had a strong last day with a 4th, 1st and 3rd position, allowing him to climb from third to second spot. 

Canada had four other sailors in top 10 in this competition as Kelley Poole (Royal Victoria Yacht Club) finished 7th in ILCA 6, Luke Vincent (Royal Victoria Yacht Club) and Thomas Joergensen (West Vancouver Yacht Club) respectively took the 6th and 7th place in ILCA 7, and Sophia Moiseyenko (West Vancouver Yact Club) finished 10th spot in ILCA 4.

SinC ILCA NA Midwinters West 2 400At the ODP Midwinters West in Long Beach, Grace Poole and Jessica Hirschbold (Royal Victoria Yacht Club) took the 7th spot in 29er, while Dylan Jones and Kate Sargent, also from the Royal Victoria Yacht Club, finished 9th.

Ben Flower 5th at the EurILCA Europa Cup

At the EurILCA Europa Cup, held a couple of weeks ago in Pollensa, Spain, Ben Flower (Tobermory Yacht Club) was the best of the three Canadians who took part in this competition with a 5th spot overall.

Luke Ruitenberg (RNSYS) finished in 9th position and Liam Bruce (Port Credit Yacht Club), 17th.
