Last week, Canadian Sailing Team member Sarah Douglas scored an impressive first place at the Laser Midwinters East hosted by Key Biscayne Yacht Club in Florida over the weekend. Competing against a field of 89 including some of the best Radial sailors in North America, Sarah showed her form in all conditions, scoring four bullets over the ten-race series.

“I stuck to my process, simplified the sailing and fought hard around the course. I made improvements in my starting and tactical decisions which were the main goals of the regatta.”

Notable competitors at the event include Sarah’s current training partner and two time Team USA Olympian Paige Railey. The two sailors were tight in points throughout the event and leading into the last day of competition, Sarah commented “The final day was amazing practice for medal race situations. I entered the day two points back of my training partner Paige Railey with two races to go and a large point gap between us and third place. This gave me the perfect opportunity to practice match racing for the podium.”
